It is with great pride and pleasure for me to announce today that BackPack Software, Inc. has added support for automatic UUEncoded file attachment processing to the OutPost eMail Server (the engine that processes incoming mail from the inte
rnet on behalf of 1.800eMail).
Anyone that has ever received one of the these in an eMail knows how troublesome it can be to try and recover the original file. Now 1.800eMail clients will enjoy the seamless conversion of these files.
For your background, UU Encoding (which stands for Unix-to-Unix), is the oldest method of transfering files from one site to another on the Internet. It has been largely replaced by MIME 1.0, which we supported from day one. However, there are quite a f
ew companies that use computer equipment (such as AS/400's and DEC Vax's) that only send their attachments using the UUEncoded format.
By adding this support (ahead of schedule I might add), we have created a conduit for companies who have older electronic mail systems to now easily communicate with their remote national sales force and clients.
This includes the ability to send an UUEncoded text file to any fax machine in the world, as the BPSI Faxserver will have already received it in its native text format.
"1.800eMail. Feature for feature....we're more than a basic eMail system...we're an essential business communication tool!"

BackPack Software, Inc. releases 1.800eMail
1.800eMail, the long awaited full-featured eMail-only solution from St. Paul, Minnesota based BackPack Software, Inc. (BPSI) was made available for download from the Web today, coinciding with general retail release.
"We wanted to give the Internet community access to this technology along with the retail buyer", said BPSI President and CEO David Duccini. "After the glitz of the web wears off, most people just want reliable eMail. Thats what we
've created, the first Internet eMail software that doesn't require TCP/IP, and automatically handles file attachments for the user."
Unlike other electonic mail services such as Freemark or Juno, 1.800eMail is not advertiser supported. "No free clip-art, no commercials, and attachments that actually work make this product well worth a look", said Steve Foust, Presi
dent of CDR Publishing, publisher of 1.800eMail. "It really is perfect for laptop users, business travelers, and rural america because of the ease of use. It really does take less than five minutes to install and send your first eMail message!&q
